Obituary of Edna Kathleen Hartman
Edna Kathleen Hartman, 99 of Bruceton Mills and formerly of Yuma, Arizona passed peacefully
at New Horizon Senior Living Center on Friday, May 17, 2024.
She was born November 2, 1924 in Terra Alta, a daughter of the late Denzil and Ida Wolfe
Liston. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Yuma, and later attended
Bruceton United Methodist Church.
Edna graduated from Terra Alta High School in 1943. While a senior in high school, she
attended welding classes in Oakland, MD. Edna was a "Rosy the Riveter" welding in the
construction of airplanes used to train pilots during World War II. She was an entrepreneur,
owning and operating several businesses with her husband Mervin. She retired from Human
Resources at CF&I, a subsidiary of U.S. Steel in Pueblo, Colorado. While living in Colorado, she
earned a pilot's license and enjoyed flying over Colorado. She and Mervin loved to travel and
did so extensively throughout the United States and several other countries. She never saw
obstacles in her life, only opportunities.
She is survived by a nephew, William M. Gardner and spouse Pamela of Bruceton Mills; a
niece Lisa Gardner of Morgantown, and a great niece Kara R. McGinnis of Jamestown, NC.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mervin R. Hartman, a
sister, Juanita Liston Gardner and brother-in-law Mont M. Gardner, and a niece, Elaine Gardner
Everly.
Edna will be remembered for her quick wit, her willingness to help others, and her
independent spirit.
The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the staff at New Horizon Senior Living
Center for the excellent care Edna (Ellie) received the last four and a half years.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Arthur H. Wright Funeral Home, Terra Alta.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
