Obituary of Joan Marie Moats

Joan Marie Moats, 56 of Falling Waters, WV formerly of Terra Alta, passed away Saturday October 28, 2023 at home surrounded by her loving family. The daughter of Lula R. (Haskiell) Moats of Oakland, and the late Ray A. Moats, Sr., she was born May 17, 1967, in Oakland. Joan was a CNA for over 30 years, the majority of which was at Evergreen Health & Rehab in Winchester, VA. Joan took great pride in caring for the residents and treated each one with the respect, love and dignity that everyone deserves. Joan is survived by her sons Brandon Wayne Moats, 31 and William Ray Shutts, Sr. 25 both of Falling Waters, WV; one grandson, William Ray Shutts, Jr (Little Man) age 4 of Falling Waters, WV; sisters Donna (Randy) Sines of Aurora, Sherry (Daniel) Rogers of Hedgesville; brothers, Ray (Melanie) Moats, Jr. of Lancaster, Dean (Betty Boyer) Moats of Terra Alta & Billy (Bonnie) Moats of Terra Alta, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by one niece Saunya (Punk) Sines. Family and friends will be received at the Arthur H. Wright Funeral Home in Terra Alta on Tuesday from 4:00-6:00 p.m. and from 12:00 noon on Wednesday November 1, 2023 until the 2:00 p.m. time of service with Pastor Jeff Anderson officiating.
