Obituary of Larry Lyle Cuppett

Larry Lyle Cuppett, 70, of Oakland, MD, passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at his home. 

He was born September 30, 1953, in Oakland, MD, a son of the late Berlin Dean and Janet Lillian (Lipscomb) Cuppett.

Larry was a 1971 graduate of Terra Alta High School and served his country in the US Air Force during the Vietnam war. He worked for the Island Creek Coal Mine for 10 years and the Department of Justice in the Federal Bureau of prisons as a correctional officer for 20 years until his retirement. He was an avid lover of muscle cars and loved to travel.

He is survived by his son Brian Sphar and Karin of Terra Alta; stepchildren, Taylor Damuth and Alexa, Ashley Damuth and Britany Damuth; five grandchildren, Breanna and Chase Sphar, Brooks Damuth, Connor and Caleb Ferguson; a brother, Gary Kyle and Kathryn  Cuppett and many cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sonja Anne (Smith) Cuppett on February 14, 2014, and a son, Jamie Ferguson.

Family and friends will be received at the Arthur H. Wright Funeral Home in Terra Alta on Thursday, October 12, 2023, from 10 am until the 12 noon time of service with Brother Jay Freeland officiating. Interment will follow in the Terra Alta Cemetery.
