Obituary of Hugh Clinton Mayne

Hugh Clinton Mayne, Sr.

81 of Terra Alta died on Thursday April 13, 2023 at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown surrounded by family after a brief illness.

The son of the late Ervie Sanford and Pearl Owens Mayne, he was born October 29, 1941, in Rowlesburg.

Hugh retired from the T&T Energy Coal Mine. He was the President to the Terra Alta Ambulance Squad for many years. He loved to hunt, fish and garden. He enjoyed traveling.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ellen R. Kelly Mayne; two sons, Hugh C. (Anna) Mayne, Jr. of Terra Alta and Rodney R. Mayne (Lisa Ponto) of Cheyenne, WY; a daughter, Kim Whitehair (Earl Lantz) of Cumberland; a brother, Bud (Judy) Mayne of Grafton; nine grandchildren, Matthew Riley, Bobby Riley, Jon (Becca) Whitehair, Anthony Mayne, Scottie (Krystal) Mayne, Joshua Mayne, Veronica Collins, Megan Mayne and Ashley Ponto; 20 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Diana Riley; three grandchildren, Amanda Riley, Jeffrey Whitehair and Amber Ponto; two great grandsons, Emmett and Kaydin; two brothers and seven sisters.

To honor his wishes, cremation services have been entrusted to the Arthur H. Wright Funeral Home in Terra Alta.
