Obituary of Conley Grant Hardesty

Conley Grant "Homer" Hardesty, 58, of Kingwood, passed away peacefully in his home on November 22, 2019 with his wife and children by his side. Conley was born in Oakland, MD on February 13, 1961 to and Betty Jean (Sisler) Strawser, of Corinth and the late Grant Hardesty. He was employed as a coal miner at various coal mines in the area for almost forty years. He loved spending time outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. Conley was exceptionally handy and could easily remedy any problem in little time, or at least direct those in need to the store and specific area to find what was needed when he did not have the means for repair. Not only was he helpful, he was also truly happy. He loved life and his family and friends. He made friends everywhere he went. He was loved by everyone, whether they knew him well or he had just met them. He was the person who made everyone laugh or smile, even if he was feeling terrible. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren. He would take them on buggy rides, play with their favorite toys with them, teach them about shooting guns and use every other opportunity to make memories to last a lifetime. He was proud of all of his children and raved about their accomplishments. The love shared between he and his wife could be felt by anyone in close vicinity. He was diligent while on the clock and off, to provide the best possible life for those he loved. He is also survived by his loving wife, Lori "Mert" Hardesty; six children, Becky Cline (Brian) of Swanton, MD, Ashley Girard (Ron) of Butler, PA, Grant Hardesty (Kayla Riley) of Corinth, Stefany Glotfelty (AJ Thomas) of Swanton, MD, Jakecob Hardesty of Terra Alta and Harley Glotfelty of Kingwood; eleven grandchildren; one brother, Ralph Hardesty of Corinth and three sisters, Ethel Butler (June) of Terra Alta, Brenda Thomas of Oakland and Alpha Loughrie (Dana) of Terra Alta; first wife, Gloria Pritt Moats, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray Hardesty and Roy Hardesty. Family and friends will be received at the Arthur H. Wright Funeral Home, Terra Alta on Sunday, November 24, 2019 from 2-7:00 p.m. At Conley's request, there will not be a service. A legend. You were a humble man full of love, strength and encouragement to us. In life, and now death, you wouldn't want us to focus on the sadness and sorrow but to continue to love and support each other no matter the situation.
